Monolithos is located about 80 km distance from the city center. A popular destination for those who choose the island of Rhodes for holidays. A very small, picturesque village, amphitheatrically built, with stone houses, beautiful courtyards and tiled roofs and steep cobbled streets.
Its name came from the huge monolith rock, on which it stands. A characteristic feature of the monolith is the medieval castle on top among the pines, offering breathtaking view. The castle was built in 1480 by the Knights of Agios Ioannis to protect the raids on the island. Inside the castle is the church of Agios Panteleimon. You'll also find some caves.
Visitors can swim in the nearby pebble beach Fourni, ideal for those who love pebbles andthe crystal waters. There is also the possibility of accommodation and good food in traditional taverns.
